Job 29:2 "Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me"
Webster’s dictionary defines the phrase “Glory Days” as a time in the past that is remembered for great success or happiness. In our world today we hear this phrase used many times. Being a Dallas Cowboys fan, I’m one of those fans that always talks about the “Glory Days.” I was a teenager when the Cowboys won the Super Bowls in the 90’s. I miss those days. If you’re my age or older, you’ve probably heard your parents talk about the “Glory Days” of America. Times when they could leave their front door unlocked with no worries. Times when you had full-service pumps at the gas station. I’m actually old enough to remember that. In Wills Point we had a full-service gas station when I was a young man in the early 80’s. I miss those days. We hear our founding Pastor tell the stories from time to time of how he misses the store front days. Days when our church had to break out extra chairs for the amount of visitors that were coming and being saved in each service. Those of you that were a part of this church during that time, I’m sure you miss those days as well.
We find Job here in chapter 29 longing for those so called “Glory Days.” If you’ve studied Job at all, you know that he was a wealthy and highly respected man who also had a great family. In chapter 29, we find Job longing for those days. At this point in the book of Job he has been through more trials than most would possibly face in a lifetime. Instead of getting mad at God, he is longing for the “glory days” when he was closest to God.
I wonder today what you would consider your “Glory Days” in Christianity. For many of us it was the day we got saved. The tears shed on that day were fresh. Job says in verse 20 of chapter 29 “My glory was fresh in me…” I wonder today, has that freshness worn off.
How do we get back to our “Glory Days’ in our walk with the Lord?
Many people long for the “Glory Days” because that place in time has somehow disappeared for them. In our walk with the Lord, we must get back to the time when we were closest to the Lord. The time when a smile hardly ever left our face. The time when we were not ashamed to others about Christ and all He has done for us. We must thrive every day to live for Him. David said in Psalm 145:2 “Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.”

How do we get back to our “Glory Days’ in our walk with the Lord?
- Let His light shine
- Let His light continue
- Let His light protect
