What's Your Quest?

Philippians 1:6 - “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:”

What is your pursuit in life? Do you have a definite mission? Is there a high and lofty goal that you’re pursuing?

Years ago Satan had dealt a death blow to my marriage; because of that, I wanted to get even. So how do you get even with someone who is the prince and power of the air?

I set out a goal to learn how to witness so I could let the Holy Spirit steal the devil’s children away from him. I know it upsets the devil every time I get to lead someone to Christ. It’s the most enjoyable thing I’ve experienced.

Robert Ballard had a thirteen-year quest in his life. He was on a mission to see the Titanic, not the movie, but the actual ship. He discovered her in her lonely berth more than 2 miles deep in the North Atlantic.

For nearly three-quarters of a century, since April 1912, the great ship had been celebrated in legend, along with 1,522 souls who disappeared beneath the icy waters hundreds of miles off the coast of Newfoundland.

It was not until a strobe light penetrated her eerie, muddy grave on September 1, 1985, did anyone know her whereabouts. On that day, the man whose pursuit in life for thirteen years had been dominated by his quest to find her.

How fascinated was he by her? Enough to take 53,000 photos of her. Enough to study every visible foot of her gigantic frame. Enough to respect her privacy and leave her as he found her…undisturbed. As Ballard wrote following his final visit, “The quest for Titanic is over. May she now rest in peace.”.

According to Webster, a quest means a pursuit, a search, or an adventurous journey. What is your quest? Is there anything dominating your life to hold your attention for thirteen or more years?

Without a pursuit, life is quickly reduced to a bland diet not worth getting out of bed for. In my own pursuit, I get to celebrate every time someone trusts Christ. I get a little jealous when they pass away because they beat me to heaven.

My pursuit has lasted fifty years, and I bet Satan wishes he never bothered me. I laugh just thinking about it. Heaven will be much sweeter when I get to see those whom I influenced for Jesus' sake. I’m not bragging because the Holy Spirit taught me everything I know about witnessing. When I got saved, I couldn’t even spell Genesis much less Revelation. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
