Make Me A Blessing

Mark 9:35 - “And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.”
Out in the highways and by-ways of life,
Many are weary and sad.
Carry the sunshine where darkness is rife,
Making the sorrowing glad.
Make me a blessing, make me a blessing,
Out of my life may Jesus shine;
Make me a blessing, O Savior, I pray,
Make me a blessing to someone today.
As Mark writes, he allows us to follow the life of Christ and see one who lives the life of an unselfish servant. There is no acting or dramatics, just Jesus being a servant of all. It is amazing what this brief episode teaches us about the “JOY OF BEING A SERVANT”. The joy of living for others. So many in our churches today feel empty, unfulfilled, with no real joy in life. Here is the answer:
JESUS TEACHES US THAT JOY COMES IN MAKING LIFE BETTER FOR OTHERS
He healed the man with the unclean spirit in Mark 1:23. Mark 1:30-31 shows us He healed Peter’s mother-in-law of her fever and continued on his way making life better for others.
JESUS TEACHES US THAT PEOPLE COME BEFORE PROGRAMS
As the word got out that Jesus was in the house, a crowd filled the house. They came to see and hear Jesus. Mark 2:2 - “And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.” While the preaching was taking place, four men brought a paralyzed man in, and Jesus took note of a human need, stopped the service, and went to the man. The man was more important than the program; Jesus healed the man. Paul echoed this truth in 1 Corinthians 13:1 - “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.” Jesus went to the man, said nothing to him about his paralysis, but rather dealt with his basic need as he said, “...Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.” (Mark 2:5). People are more important than programs.
JESUS TEACHES US THAT JOY COMES IN LIVING BEFORE YOU DIE
Mark 8:35 - “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.” The way to live a life of joy is to die to self and live for Jesus. Someone once said, “Fear this; that you might die before you live.” The only way to really live is to lose yourself in service to others.
JESUS TEACHES US THAT JOY COMES IN DRAWING ATTENTION TO OUR HEAVENLY FATHER
Mark 2:12 - “And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.”
Have you discovered the joy of unselfish service to our Lord? If not, this joy could be yours. Lose your life in unselfish service and discover the joy of making life better for others, the joy of living before you die, and the joy of calling attention to our Heavenly Father.
