Submitting To The Lord

Suggested Reading: 1 Samuel 3:1-18
1 Samuel 3:18 - “And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good.”
In the words, “let him do what seemeth him good” is found a statement of total submission. No bargaining, no arguments, just submission; that should be every Christian’s position.
Before you say, I am completely submitted to God you might think about how you react to bad news, a health problem, or if all your plans go bad. What do you say then?
Remember, Eli had received a hard message of judgment to come on his house and yet he could say, “let him do what seemeth him good.” It is an easy thing to say when the news is good, but that was not the case here. Let’s learn our lesson from Eli.
THE MESSAGE WE SHOULD SEE IN ELI’S WORDS.
1. God is always working in the life of His children
Eli knew God was working so what could an obedient child say except, “let Him do what seemeth good.” There was a divine activity going on. Philippians 1:6 - “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ”:
2. God oversees all that comes into our lives
He is overall, He is supreme, and nothing can come into the life of a Christian without His permission. Eli believed this, and when Samuel brought him the word from God, he did not say, “It’s my bad luck” or “It’s of the devil”, he said, “It is the Lord.”
3. God is always working according to a predetermined plan
A. He has a plan for our life. Psalm 37:23 - “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.”
B. He has a plan for our salvation. 2 Peter 3:9 - “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
C. He has a plan for our sanctification. 1 Thessalonians 4:3 - “For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:”
D. He has a plan for our service. Ephesians 2:10 - “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
4. God never does a wrong thing in our lives. If God is God, he must do right. Eli believed that so he could say, “It is the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good.” He never makes a mistake, so there is no need to question His ways, and it surely would be wrong to think He is unjust in His dealings with us. We are slow to believe because we cannot see what God is doing, or at least not yet!
One day we will see differently. Revelation 15:3 - “And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.”
Read 1 Samuel 3:1-18 again.
