Opinionated

Galatians 1:8 - “I Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)”.
Opinions, opinions, opinions. We all have them, and we have them about everything. We see videos and reels all about someone else’s opinion. Shirts and bumper stickers with opinions sell like crazy.
I have my own opinions that I share all the time with others. Sometimes I don’t even truly stick with and believe in them myself. For example, if you have known me for any time, you have heard me say, “No meat means no meal,” which is not true at all but just a preference of mine.
I also love sweet tea and let everyone know that it is the best (which in my opinion is true). In reality, it is just my opinion. Others should not change what they believe just because of my opinion.
The problem now is that people are forming and sharing their opinions about the Church and the Bible without even backing it up with scripture. People have changed their opinion about Church attendance, Church doctrine, and many other beliefs because some other opinions sound good.
Through the years I have heard good people say, “I do not have to go to church on Sunday nights or Wednesday nights to be right with God.” This sounds right, but it does not align with scripture. The Bible says in Hebrews 10:25 - “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is;”. The apostle Paul is saying in verse 8, don’t believe it if it is not backed up by scripture.
In today’s society, we need to be more careful than ever as to who we believe because everyone is sharing their opinion and most of the time it does not align with scripture.
How many times do we hop on social media or YouTube or even the news and get caught up with someone else's opinion? If we are not careful, we can completely miss out on what God wants for us because we are listening to the wrong source.
Here are a few questions to ask yourself to see if you accept opinions over scripture.
1. Should I go to Sunday School and church services or just the church service? What about the Sunday night service or the Wednesday night service?
- Hebrews 10:25, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is;”
2. Do others influence what I believe more than scripture influences me?
- Romans 10:17, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
3. Should I be a soul-winner?
- Matthew 28:19, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:”
As Christians, we should be careful about what we believe when it comes from anywhere but the Word of God. We should also be careful about the opinions we share. Make sure that what we say does not lead someone the wrong way. We need to be careful when it comes to opinions.
