The Burdens Of Life

Psalm 55:22 - “Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”

Are you weary, are you heavy hearted? Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus
Are you grieving over joys departed? Tell it to Jesus alone.
Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus, He is a friend that’s well known
You’ve no other, such a friend or brother, Tell it to Jesus alone.

How wonderful are the words of that old song as we move through this life with the burdens that so many face each day. “Many are the afflictions of the righteous:...” (Psalm 34:19). Looking at that fact makes our text verse even more wonderful.

Many Christians carry:

REAL BURDENS
There are the burdens of the home where many times there is poverty, sickness, and sorrow. There is the burden of disappointment. There are physical burdens. There is the burden of bereavement. There is the burden of sin in the life of the Christian.

There are many burdens, what can we do?

RECEIVE THE BURDEN AS FROM THE LORD
Don’t retreat, accept the burden. Don’t moan and accuse God while having a pity party. “Attend unto me, and hear me: I mourn in my complaint, and make a noise;” (Psalm 55:2). Too many mourn and make complaints when the burden comes. Don’t get bitter and exhibit a mean spirit toward others. Christians must come to understand that the Bible is true and that all things work together for good to them. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (Rom. 8:28) So remember, your burden is “God’s doing” and how we deal with it should bring us closer to Him.

Understanding that we should then:

RETURN THE BURDEN TO THE LORD
“Cast thy burden upon the LORD...” He is the great burden bearer. “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matt. 11:28-30). Note that we are to cast our burden upon the Lord and that will require a definite action on our part.

We must act, learning that we cannot, but He can.

RELAX
Once you cast your burden on the Lord, He assumes full responsibility and says I will sustain you and not suffer the righteous to be moved. Perhaps you need to just believe that God is trustworthy and let Him have your burden and you just relax. God loves you and cares.
