I Never Knew I Could Do That

Psalm 16:11 – “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”
Many people purchase technology and use it on an everyday basis. Whether it be a cell phone, computer, or new TV; we are flooded with new technology every day. Have you ever uttered the phrase “I never knew I could do that” when talking about your new technology?
My daughter and I recently took a trip to Los Angeles, and for our trip, we needed to rent a car at LAX. The car was a Dodge Charger GT and had all the bells and whistles. Luckily, I never came in sight of an LA Police Officer because I was testing the speed out on this vehicle like no other. However, I could not figure out how to switch the car from defrost to the AC vents blowing out in the front. For three days we drove this car and the AC would randomly turn on and off. I thought for sure the car’s AC controls were broken. This vehicle had one of those navigational screens that also controls the radio. I own a 2011 Ram truck. I don’t have one of those fancy screens. I knew how to work the radio and the navigation system, but that was about it. However, it took me three days to figure out that it also controlled the AC buttons I was looking for. When I found it I told Savannah, “Well this is cool, look at all I can do now.” Many people go throughout their life with technology not fully understanding everything it can do.
I wonder how many Christians do the same regarding the Holy Spirit. When we get saved, we enter into a relationship with the Holy Spirit. But do we fully understand how being filled with the Holy Spirit can impact our lives? Being filled with the Holy Spirit will increase our ability and courage to serve Christ and others in His name. Soon you will be able to say, “I never knew I could do that.” What could I have done differently to learn about this car?
What can we do differently to get the “fulness of joy” from the Lord? Acts 17:11, “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”
You know, had I broken out the owner’s manual of the car I was driving, I could have learned on the first day how to fully operate that vehicle. We have something far greater than an owner’s manual in our relationship with the Lord. Our Pastor Bro. Andrew Wolfenbarger stated in a recent message, the Word of God is not to be treated like a textbook or a manual; it is the very heart and mind of God. What better way to learn about the “fulness of joy” than from His own Words? I promise, you will begin to say, “I never knew I could do that.”
