God Knows How It Ends

Genesis 50:20 - “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.”
Have you ever wished you could know the end of your story? Most of us have read the story of Joseph many times. We know that Joseph grew up in a home of twelve siblings. The Bible says Joseph’s father, Jacob, played favorites causing his brothers to hate him.
One day, they chose to sell Joseph into slavery. He went from being in a great home with a promising future with all his needs met to having nothing and on his way to being a slave.
A man named Potiphar eventually bought Joseph. God blessed everything Joseph did while he lived in Potiphar’s home. Potiphar entrusted everything to Joseph, and things seemed to be going Joseph’s way. However, his life takes another turn.
Potiphar’s wife falsely accused Joseph, and he found himself in the king’s prison. Once again, his life seems to have gone downhill. I would not have blamed Joseph if he began to ask the question, “When is this going to end?”.
In the end, we know that Joseph got out of prison and was made second in command over all of Egypt. Often, because we know the end of Joseph's story, the things he went through may not hit as hard because we know things turn out well for him.
However, for many of us, we do not know the ending of our story. We may not know how our trials and difficult situations will end. Because of that, we begin to panic, get discouraged, and sometimes lose faith. However, that is not God’s desire for us. In a trial, there are a few things that God wants us to remember.
1. God is with us. (Matthew 28:20)
We must remember the very thing we are reminded of many times during Joseph’s story. “But the LORD was with Joseph,” (Genesis 39:21). As we are going through a trial, God is with us.
2. God is Sovereign (Colossians 1:16)
In Genesis 50:20, Joseph tells his brothers, “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good,”. Joseph understood that God was in control this whole time. Nothing takes God by surprise.
3. God knows the end of our story. (Romans 8:28; Jeremiah 29:11)
At the end of Genesis 50:20, Joseph says, “to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.” Joseph understood the ending that God had planned had a purpose. His ultimate goal was to “save much people”. God also has a purpose for what He is doing in our trials.
God’s desire for us is to simply trust the One who knows how it all ends. We can trust that He is in control of everything. Whatever we might be going through today, let’s focus on these truths.
