In A Moment

I Corinthians 15:52 - “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”

We have many moments that we hope for in our life. We hope to be married, be recognized for some amazing accomplishment at work, or maybe a fantasy football championship. Some moments are missed like your child's birthday, an anniversary, or maybe a funeral. Some moments are never forgotten like the birth of a child, when you married your true love, or a horrific accident.

In the 1951 playoff game when the New York Giants played against the Brooklyn Dodgers there was a moment that was later called the "Shot Heard 'Round the World". This was the first major television event that was broadcast in America from coast to coast. Bobby Thomson hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game 5-4, capping a colossal comeback and sending the Giants to the World Series. Russ Hodges was the sportscaster that called that famous home run, “There's a long drive ... it's gonna be, I believe ... The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant! Bobby Thomson hits into the lower deck of the left-field stands! The Giants win the pennant and they're going crazy! They're going crazy! I don't believe it! I don't believe it! I do not believe it! Bobby Thomson hit a line drive into the lower deck of the left-field stands and this blame place is going crazy!”

It took less than .04 seconds for the ball to travel the 60 feet 6 inches from the pitcher's mound to home plate; then it took the ball 5 seconds to travel the 320 feet for the home run. In a moment Bobby Thompson became a hero and they carried him off the field.

One day a trumpet sound will be heard around the world and things will be changed in a moment.

1. A Moment of Salvation
We need to remember that special moment in our lives and know that many people have had an “almost” moment like Agrippa. “Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.” (Acts 26:28).

2. A Moment of Suffering But . . .
Paul had many moments of suffering, but he was able to see the positive side. “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;” (II Cor. 4:8).

3. A Moment of Shout
Twinkling - immediately, instantaneously. “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:” (I Thess. 4:16).

We must all have that moment of salvation experience and refer to that day often, especially in times of trouble. We must look unto God during our moments of suffering in the same way the Apostle Paul did. We need to be prepared for the moment of shout and make sure we are busy doing the things of God when he calls us home.
