Only Sometimes Usually Leads To Never

2 Chronicles 34:18-19, 33 - “Then Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath given me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king. And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he rent his clothes. And Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and made all that were present in Israel to serve, even to serve the LORD their God. And all his days they departed not from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.”
Words strongly influence people. The right words spoken at the right time have innumerable potential. They have motivated people to do what seemed impossible. They have also stopped people from doing things that would be detrimental.
It is usually words that start wars as well as end them. On a smaller scale, it is words better left unsaid that start a fight with a loved one which will require words of humility to end the fight. Words are powerful, but none are as powerful as the Word of God.
What does God's Word do to you? When you read it, the impact that it can have on your life is endless. The practice that has produced the greatest growth in my Christian life is reading God's Word.
What does God's Word do if you don’t read it? Nothing! In Josiah’s day, God's Word was not read because it had been so neglected that it had been lost. Sadly, I reached a point in my spiritual life when I wasn’t reading God’s Word. I went from the place of always reading it to sometimes reading it.
During COVID, I didn’t have to study for Sunday school and we only had church online. It became evident that I didn’t read my bible during this time. When I finally got to a point where I had nowhere else to turn, I returned to God’s precious Word.
When I got back into reading the Word of God and opened myself to it, my only response was to fall down and repent to God for how foolish I had been. I was ashamed of the time wasted. The remedy all along was reading God's Word! When did I realize this? When I read God's Word.
Thankfully when God's Word is read and obeyed, things seem to find their way out of your life. Not only that, your obedience to God's Word has a way of impacting others. That is what Josiah’s response was as king. It was simply by hearing God's Word that he changed his life and everyone in the nation.
How have you been affected by God's Word? Who have you affected because you read God's Word? Have others' lives been enriched because of your obedience to it? When you are not reading God's Word daily, you are definitely not sharing it with others.
When you read God's Word daily, how can you keep from sharing it with others? It is never too late to start. You have time to make a difference in your life and the lives of others. Nothing has as great of an impact as the Word of God. If you find that you are less than satisfied with the state you are in, may I recommend opening God's Word today?
