Proverbs 27:1 - “Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth."
"I Know Who Holds Tomorrow"
I don’t know about tomorrow, I just live from day to day
I don’t borrow from its sunshine, for its skies may turn to grey.
I don’t worry about the future, for I know what Jesus said,
and today I’ll walk beside him, for He knows what is ahead.
Our desire to know the future keeps the fortune tellers, soothsayers and spirit mediums in business. Many live with the earnest desire to know the secrets of tomorrow so let’s study the thought.
THE SECRETS OF TOMORROW
What will tomorrow bring?
1. Prosperity or poverty?
James 4:13-14, “Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”
2. Success or failure, health or sickness, love or heartbreak, joy or sorrow, who can say? Since the unknown possibilities are real, how should we face tomorrow?
HOW SHOULD WE FACE THESE UNKNOWN TOMORROWS?
1. We could face it like a pagan. Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die.
2. We could face it with an attitude of “what’s the use”, and like some, even commit suicide.
3. We could face it with an attitude of Christian faith, that is, God will see us through.
Tomorrow is God’s day and He loves us with an infinite love. We have today, God has tomorrow.
THE CERTAINTIES OF TOMORROW
1. Tomorrow will come with its own light and God’s guidance.
Psalm 19:2, “Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.” Proverbs 3:6, “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
2. Tomorrow, if we live by faith, provision will come.
Matthew 6:11, “Give us this day our daily bread.” Psalm 37:25, “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.”
3. Tomorrow will bring its own evil for the day.
Matthew 6:34, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”, but we can say, Psalm 23:4, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”
4. Tomorrow will bring its own strength for the day.
Deuteronomy 33:25, “Thy shoes shall be iron and brass; and as thy days, so shall thy strength be.” Let us be busy for God.
OUR RESPONSE TO THE CERTAINTIES
1. We ought to be receptive, responsive, and active today and every day, just as in the way that Jesus lived. John 9:4, “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” God is gracious and merciful, and we are secure in His keeping to do His work on earth.
