Still No Room For The Saviour

Luke 2:7 – “And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.”
Matthew 6:19-21 – “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Matthew 6:24 – “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
We hear the story about the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ many times, especially around Christmas time. The other day as I was reading this scripture in the middle of April and thought to myself, would there be “no room for them in the inn” even today?
Many times, especially if you have children, our schedules can become so full that just the slightest of changes can throw us into panic mode. For little league parents, everything is great until there is a rained-out game we have to make up. For those working forty to sixty hours a week, everything is ok until the boss puts something extra on your desk to complete.
We’ve all had those weeks where everything went according to schedule. However, we’ve also had weeks where our schedules got thrown off balance.
When I was working for Best Buy years ago, I remember the times that I was “too busy” for church. I remember when I didn’t read my Bible or have a daily prayer life. I can also remember that those were times of trials in my marriage and with the raising of my children.
There came a time in my life when I had to say enough was enough and my family was too important to lose to this old world. I had to make room again for my Saviour, Jesus Christ. It doesn’t happen on its own. You have to make the room. You have to diligently plan time with the Lord. We have heard our Pastor many times read the scripture “where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:21). Oftentimes he will say, “If you want to know where your treasure is, look at your checkbook.”
If we were to look at our daily/weekly schedules today, would we find time scheduled for our Saviour? How much time is scheduled for the Lord compared to our other activities? Time and time again the world has proven that it has no room for our Saviour. Will you make room for him today?
1. Make Room in Our Homes
Take time to have family devotions. On Sundays and Wednesdays, take the time to ask your children what they learned at church. This will help to ensure that what the Pastor/Teacher is teaching gets through to our children, and then help them to implement these teachings in their lives.
2. Make Room in Our Daily Life
Do you have a daily time with the Lord? Daily Bible reading and a continuous prayer life are essential ingredients for a Christian to grow. Meditate on the Word of God. Apply it in your daily routines.
3. Make Room on the Job Site
Are we a witness to our coworkers? Do they even know we are Christians?
