The Undetected War Within

Romans 7:21-25 - “I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.”
Each of us owns a jewel far more valuable than the Hope diamond. It’s a three-pound blob of gray pulp resembling a cauliflower. This jewel could be the most incredible creation in God's universe. However, there is something more fabulous. It’s a living supercomputer with unlimited circuitry that each of us has been gifted with. It is the human mind - a collection of billions of neurons, each as complex as a small computer.
Imagine having a hundred billion computers in your skull! Each of these neurons consists of a central nerve cell core attached to a long tail and serves a thousand wispy dendrites. These dendrites reach out and make contact with other dendrites. The number of connection points is perhaps one quadrillion (10 to the 15th power) in every human brain. The number of connections within the brain rivals the number of stars and galaxies in the universe.
Satan, however, has dealt a death blow to our minds, as seen in our scripture reading. “I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind,”.
The law of the mind is the desire to obey. Paul gives thanks to God that Christ is greater than the principle working in our members, and that He will help us serve the law of God. Yet he warns us that we must choose to be spiritually minded to enjoy life. Romans 8:6, “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Renewed, in Ephesians 4:23, means to renovate. “And be renewed in the spirit of your mind.”
What are we putting daily in our minds? That fantastic computer that never forgets the info. We are feeding it, and the Bible tells us what we should be feeding it in Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” The word “think” means you and I need to take an inventory so we can be reminded of what’s stored upstairs.
Our enemy is at work while we sleep, so let’s put some of these things in our minds so we will be equipped to win the battle. Is Bible reading a priority for you? What about your prayer time? Is sharing your witness with others important? To be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. We will have a peaceful journey when our mind is right.
