Can I Know The Will Of God?

Suggested Reading: Colossians 1:9-14
Colossians 1:9 - “For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;”
There is a good deal of dishonesty that comes with the term, “The will of God.” Someone comes to the Pastor and says, “Pastor, it’s the will of God that we leave the Church.” Or “The Lord wants me to tell you this.” Or when some tragedy we don’t understand happens, you hear these words, “Well, it must have been the Lord’s will.”
It seems that it's easier to talk about the will of God than it is to find the will of God. Paul then says, “[I] do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will.”
HE PRAYS FIRST FOR OUR SPIRITUAL INSIGHT.
Colossians 1:9, “For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;” This comes from knowing God on a personal basis. He is either your Father or He is not your Father. Some who misunderstand are quick to say, “God is the Father of us all.” Of course, we know that is not so because the Bible says of some in John 8:44, “Ye are of your father the devil.” You must be born again to have spiritual insight.
Years ago, someone suggested an experiment to draw nigh unto God. For six months:
1. Set aside fifteen minutes each day for reading the Bible.
2. Set aside another fifteen minutes each day for prayer.
3. Attend each service of the Church.
4. Do your best, day by day, to live by the teaching of Jesus Christ. John 7:17, “If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.” A way to know the will of God is to obediently follow God.
HE PRAYS NEXT FOR A WORTHY WALK FOR US.
Colossians 1:10-11, “That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness.” A worthy walk brings forth fruit, “being fruitful”, it brings forth growth, “increasing in the knowledge of God;” and a worthy walk brings forth power, “according to his glorious power”.
HE PRAYS NEXT FOR A THANKFUL HEART FOR US.
Colossians 1:12-14, “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:” A thankful heart because God has qualified us for an inheritance, rescued us from the power of darkness, and transported us to the kingdom of His dear Son. You can know His will.
How did it all happen? It was redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins. THANKS BE UNTO GOD!
