Dine On The Divine

Psalm 34:8 - “O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.”

We have been given five senses to enhance our experiences; each of them being very unique. I have always said that one thing I am most thankful for about how God designed man, was that He allowed us to be able to taste food. He did not have to do this. Eating is technically just something that we must do to sustain life.

Many people who got COVID-19 experienced a temporary loss of smell and taste. I am sure that all were thankful when these senses returned.

I used to work with a woman who fell down a flight of stairs and hit her head pretty hard. She had a CT and MRI of her brain and there appeared to be no damage, however, after she hit her head she was no longer able to smell or taste her food. She went to a specialist who told her that she damaged the portion of her brain that communicates with the receptors in her nose and on her tongue that allow her to taste and that she would more than likely never recover from this. What an awful thing to have happened! You can tell her over and over again how good something tastes and although she may consume the food she is never able to experience the satisfaction that you get from it.

Have you ever found yourself talking to an unsaved person about how wonderful the Lord is and they just look at you like they are lost? Unless a person places their faith in Christ they can not understand what you are talking about. They can read the same passages from God's Word that you do or hear His Word preached and they get nothing from it. That is why the Bible says, “blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.”

Nothing is real until it is personal. You can not know or experience the goodness of God until you begin a personal relationship with Him. Have you tried the Lord and don’t find that He tastes good? Then you probably have never trusted in Him. I can tell you how good He tastes and intellectually you can believe that I am right but you will not have the satisfaction of tasting his goodness if you are not His.

If you are His never allow yourself to forget His goodness. When you eat something that you haven’t had in a good while doesn’t it make you say to yourself, why have I deprived myself of this as long as I have? I have forgotten how good this tastes!

When is the last time that you dined on the Words of the Divine? The Lord, He is good! If you have allowed yourself to go a day without tasting how good He is that is a day too long. If you are His you have tasted His goodness, why then would you rob yourself of the opportunity to daily eat at His table? Not all food is created equal.

There is plenty of junk that we allow ourselves to fill up on and then we find that we don’t have an appetite for God's Word. Here is a suggestion, don’t save the best for last. You may find that you don’t have the time for fine dining and who wants to miss out on that?
