Day By Day

2 Corinthians 4:16 - “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”

Two men are discussed here, the outward man or the natural man and the inward man or the Spiritual man. One is perishing and one is being renewed or strengthened.

As I grow older, and so have my long-time friends, I have become accustomed to hearing a familiar answer to the question, “How are you doing?” That answer goes something like this, “Well, I’m just taking it day by day."

That’s the natural man’s answer as age makes a change in us. But for the inward man, there is help to grow us stronger and stronger in our Christian faith, but it is to be received day by day. It is not strength for tomorrow or next week, but day by day.

Christianity is a day-by-day experience that can improve on a day-by-day basis. Note some day-to-day Christian exercises.

PRAY FOR PROVISIONS, DAY BY DAY.
Luke 11:3 - “Give us day by day our daily bread.”
Many Christians are alarmed by world conditions and our nation's condition as prices escalate and shortages of products are increasing. I don’t think we would worry about things like that if we had a Heavenly Father who loved us and promised to supply all our needs. 2 Corinthians 9:8 puts it like this, “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:”.

I’m reminded of an old song,
‘’My Father is rich in houses and land
He holds the wealth of the world in His hand”

FEAST UPON HIS WORD, DAY BY DAY.
Nehemiah 8:18 - “Also day by day, from the first day unto the last day, he read in the book of the law of God.”
You can’t survive eating just one, two, or three meals a week. To be healthy you need food for the outward man daily, and to grow as a Christian, just two sermons on Sunday and one on Wednesday will not suffice.

Every Christian should set aside time each day to read the Word of God. You say, “Well, I can’t understand all of it.” Sometimes when we are talking to small children, it’s very hard to understand them, but if you listen long enough, you begin to understand more and more. You may not understand all the preaching or all the Bible, but it won’t hurt you and you will begin to understand it.

PRAISE THE LORD, DAY BY DAY.
2 Chronicles 30:21 - “and the Levites and the priests praised the LORD day by day, singing with loud instruments unto the LORD.”
It seems we don’t have a problem being discouraged, afraid, helpless, and complaining. Why not just praise the Lord? You say I have nothing to praise Him for. Really? You can walk, talk, and hear and you have family and friends. As a Christian, you are on your way to Heaven, and you say you have nothing to praise Him for?

Please take time to read Psalm 146, only ten verses, and then recalibrate your thinking. Begin day by day to pray for provisions, feast upon His Word, and praise Him day by day.
