Proverbs 11:14 - "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors, there is safety."
The importance of seeking counsel is emphasized throughout the Bible. (Prov.12:15, Prov. 19:20-21, Proverbs 15:22, there are several more references), Proverbs 11:14 reminds us of the vital role that counsel plays in our lives. It says, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors, there is safety." This verse highlights the significance of seeking wise and Godly counsel when making decisions and navigating life.
In our fast-paced and complex world, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure, or sometimes falsely sure, of the best course of action. However, God has not left us to wander. He desires to guide us through the wisdom and insight of trusted counselors.
First and foremost, it is crucial to establish where we seek our counsel. The source of our advice is very important. As followers of Christ, we should seek counsel that aligns with God's Word, for it is the ultimate source of wisdom and truth. The Bible provides us with the principles and values that are essential for making godly decisions.
While seeking counsel from friends and family can be valuable, the verse reminds us of the importance of a multitude of counselors. It implies that we should seek a diversity of perspectives, allowing for a better understanding of a situation. In doing so, we can gain broader insight and avoid potential failures.
However, not all counsel is beneficial or reliable (Read, Psalms 1:1-6). It is important to discern the source and motivation behind the counsel we receive. We should prioritize seeking counsel from individuals who have a strong foundation in God's Word, are mature in their faith, and have a track record of godly wisdom. In today's age, these people are getting harder to find, but we must seek these people out.
The counsel of wise and faithful believers acts as a safeguard, protecting us from making hasty and unwise decisions. It offers a different perspective, helping us navigate challenges and avoid unnecessary failures.
Seeking counsel does not keep us from personal responsibility. Even in the multitude of counselors, we must use our discernment, seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit to confirm the counsel we receive. God confirms His wisdom in our hearts and through His Word, providing us with clarity amidst the multitude of advice we may receive.
Seeking Godly counsel is an act of humility, acknowledging that we do not have all the answers and recognizing our need for the wisdom of others.
In conclusion, seeking counsel is essential for our spiritual growth, decision-making process, and overall well-being. Let us faithfully turn to God's Word as our primary source of wisdom. As we seek counsel from trusted and Godly individuals, may we do so with humility and discernment, realizing that in the multitude of wise counselors, we find safety and guidance. May our pursuit of godly counsel lead us to make choices that honor God and bring blessings to our lives and those around us.
