I Need To Know Which Way To Go

Jeremiah 10:23 - “O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.”

The Bible makes it clear; that we need guidance. We see this in Psalm 27:11, “Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path,” and Psalm 25:4, “Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths.” Abraham left his country not knowing where he was going. Moses and the children of Israel were led by a cloud in the day and a pillar of fire by night, not knowing where they were going. Then there was Philip who was guided by the Lord to leave that wonderful revival and go down into the desert and lead the Ethiopian to Christ.

The Bible makes it plain; God will guide His people if they are willing to be led.

1. The Way He Guides
- Psalm 16:11 - “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”
God’s guidance is perfect, and the secret is in the guide Himself. He cannot err and His guidance leads us where we must be to carry out His divine purpose for our life.

2. How He Guides Us
- Psalm 73:24 - “Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.” He is our guide all through life and then we are received into glory.
- Psalm 119:105 - “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” It is plain to see God guides us with His Word.

He does this by giving us the following:
1. His Guidance Is Clear
If you need guidance on whether a man should join in all the pleasures of the world just read 1 John 2:15-17 - “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”

2. His Guidance Covers General Principles
Certain things come up in our lives that the Bible has nothing to say concerning how we deal with them. In that case, He gives us general principles such as 1 Corinthians 10:31 - “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”

3. His Guidance Warns Us Against False Ways
Throughout the Bible, God gives us negative warnings which we must heed at all costs, and He will never guide us contrary to His Word. Study the Word.
John 7:17 - “If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.”

May our prayer ever be Psalm 27:11 - “Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path,”. Get familiar with the Word, watch for His providential leading, and keep your eye on Him.
