It Is Perfect And We Have It

Psalm 12:6-7 - “The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.”
One night at work, while speaking with a patient I turned the conversation we were having towards the spiritual. I asked her if she knew where she would spend eternity. After telling me that she had been raised in church and still occasionally attended, she said that she did not know if she would go to heaven and was convinced that no one could know this. I told her that the Bible plainly tells how one can know for sure they will go to heaven and I asked if I could share the ABC’s of salvation with her.
She said, “That is where your problem lies. You would have to believe that the Bible has not been corrupted or altered by man in order to know that.” I asked her if she believed that there was a God that created all things out of nothing, and if she did would it not be a small thing for Him to preserve His Word so that we can have it? She said, “There is another problem of yours. You would have to believe that they are God's words and not man’s.” I explained to her that, “Holy men of God spake/[wrote] as they were moved by the Holy Ghost,” which is God.
She then went on to tell me how you can’t trust the people who translated the Bible. After this, I humbly told her that God's gift of salvation is available to all and that she simply needed to acknowledge that she was a sinner, believe that Christ died for her sins, and call out to Him for salvation. She told me she had heard all of that before, thanked me for my advice, and hoped I would have a good rest of my night.
I walked away from that encounter deeply grieved for that woman. Throughout the remainder of the night, I reflected on the conversation I had with her and then was moved with thanksgiving towards God for giving us His Word.
According to Google, there have been nearly 150 million books written since the invention of the printing press in 1440, and it is unknown how many more were written before then. A vast number of these books have been neglected, forgotten, or even unknown. Many of them are riddled with errors, lies, and man’s opinions. Then I found only one book that was authored by God Himself and it is perfect.
The Bible is the only book that is free of opinions and cannot be improved upon as it is inerrant and infallible. When a man sets out to write a book and publishes it, even the best of authors, over time, wish they would have written some part of it differently.
Not the Bible. It lacks nothing and contains everything that God would have man to know. It is the only book ever written by One who died and rose again and ever liveth. In fact, its author is called The Word, for He is the Living Word. Because of this, His presence can be found in all of its books, each of its chapters, and on every page. It is the only book that you can live by and die by and in so doing, live again.
The Bible is unarguably the greatest book ever written. Man can try to argue this but one day when they are forced to kneel before “The Word”, they will know they were dead wrong.
I am thankful for the Bible’s promise of its inspiration, it is literally God-breathed. I am relieved by the promise of preservation, God's supernatural involvement in protecting and propagating His word. I am grateful for the promise of illumination, as the Holy Spirit helps me to understand God's Word.
If we know all this to be true, we should give it the appropriate attention that it is due. Many Christian men and women providentially gave their lives so that we would be able to hold it in our hands. May we not take God's Word for granted. It is perfect and we have it. Let’s get busy reading and sharing it.
