Suggested Reading: Psalm 5:1-12
Psalm 5:3 - “My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.”
Have you ever wondered about the daily devotions in your life? Are they beneficial and just what is involved in daily devotions? In other words, HOW, WHY AND WHEN? Every Christian knows the necessity of daily devotions if they are to live a victorious Christian life.
David speaks here of his daily devotions, what they include, and his schedule. Please set aside time to carefully study the progression.
I. Psalm 5:3 - “in the morning”
This simple statement settles all discussion about WHEN and it indicates three things.
1. A set time for devotions.
2. The best time is morning.
3. David planned for regularity in devotions, daily.
II. His Devotions Included
1. MEDITATION verse 1 - “my meditation” (It must be a quiet time.)
2. ADORATION verse 3 - “will look up”
3. SUPPLICATION verse 2 - “Hearken unto the voice of my cry,”
4. COMMUNION verse 1 - “my words”
5. REVERENCE verse 7 - “in thy fear will I worship”
III. The Benefits Received Are Many
1. MERCY verse 7 - “in the multitude of thy mercy:”
2. DIRECTION verse 8 - “Lead me, O LORD,”
3. FAITH verse 11 - “But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice:”
4. JOY verse 11 - “let them ever shout for joy,”
5. PROTECTION verse 11 - “because thou defendest them:”
6. BLESSINGS verse 12 - “For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous;”
7. FAVOUR verse 12 - “with favour wilt thou compass him”
You should read the entire 5th Psalm very deliberately and spend quality time comparing what you do in your devotional time to what David did in his devotions. Sometimes, well-meaning Christians have no idea concerning the Biblical concept of a morning devotional, and David spells it out for us in this chapter. Your careful study of Psalm 5 could be a life-changing event. Why not start now?
You may have to leave for work early in the morning. You could get up 15 minutes earlier and just use those moments to meet with God and establish a regular habit of morning devotionals. You might only do 10 minutes; the idea is to establish the habit and it will grow. Do not deny yourself the blessings of the daily devotional. Determine the time and the place and have your Bible and writing pad waiting on you each morning. Make it the most important thing you do in your Spiritual walk each day.
